WHY NOW
The Case for Leadership Coaching
The evidence is clear — and the government is already acting on it.
When adults feel strong, supported, and resilient, they create the right conditions for young people to thrive.
A recent government white paper recommended that headteachers should have regular professional supervision — with £1 million per year being allocated to extend this in state schools.
An additional £500,000 per year is funding early coaching and mentoring for new headteachers, reaching approximately 500 more leaders.
Unions and experts are calling for professional supervision to become an entitlement for all school leaders, not just a targeted offer.
If the state sector is investing in leadership wellbeing, independent schools should be leading the charge — not being left behind.
Replacing a headteacher can cost upwards of £30,000–£50,000. Professional supervision and coaching is a fraction of that — and dramatically improves retention.
The ISI increasingly evaluates leadership wellbeing and pastoral culture. Embedding coaching demonstrates proactive, inspection-ready governance.
Schools have a legal and moral duty of care to their staff. Supervision formalises that support for the leaders who carry the greatest responsibility.
Burned-out leaders are more likely to make poor decisions in high-stakes areas, including safeguarding. Professional supervision reduces that risk.
Parents paying premium fees expect a well-led, stable school. Investing in leadership wellbeing directly protects the quality and consistency families are paying for.
THE IMPACT
The Ripple Effect
Together we can help young people shine, and create a brighter future.

Teachers Who Thrive
Staff who feel valued and resilient deliver better lessons, stronger relationships and fewer absences. That's a direct boost to retention and recruitment.
Pupils Who Shine
When the adults around them are well, young people feel it. Wellbeing is contagious — in the best possible way.
A Stronger School Community
Investing in your staff isn't a cost — it's a competitive advantage. It strengthens your reputation, aids recruitment and signals that your school takes excellence and wellbeing equally seriously.

FAQ
Common Questions
Who is this for?
Our leadership and staff programmes are designed for executive heads, heads, deputy heads, senior leaders, middle leaders, NQTs, and teaching staff at independent schools. We can tailor the offering to any level.
Do you only work with independent schools?
No. While many of our school partnerships are with independent schools, we also work with state-maintained schools, academies and other educational institutions. Our coaching and training programmes are effective across all school settings and support staff and pupils up to age 21.
How does leadership supervision & coaching differ from mentoring?
Coaching is non-directive — it uses powerful questions to help leaders find their own answers. Mentoring tends to involve advice-giving from someone in a similar role. Supervision sits between the two: it uses a coaching supervision model that combines reflective questioning with the sharing of ideas and experience where appropriate. This makes it especially well-suited to senior leaders, who benefit from both challenge and perspective. The end goal is still self-sufficiency, but supervision also expands awareness and encourages deeper, more honest reflection on practice.
What does a typical coaching engagement look like?
Most leaders benefit from 6–12 sessions over a term or academic year. Sessions are 55 minutes, held in person or online, and are entirely confidential. We agree goals at the start and review progress throughout.
Can you deliver training for the whole staff team?
Absolutely. We offer INSET sessions, twilight workshops and term-long wellbeing programmes. Topics include resilience, strengths-based practice, managing pressure and building a coaching culture, among others.
Why should independent schools invest in this?
The government is investing millions in leadership supervision for state schools. Independent schools pride themselves on excellence — staff wellbeing is the foundation of that. It's also a powerful retention and recruitment tool.
Is this confidential?
Yes. Coaching is entirely confidential. We don't share session content with governors, HR or the school unless there is a safeguarding concern. Trust is the foundation of effective coaching.
